When I first ran for state representative back in 2000, I promised to be engaged in the issues and concerns of the people of Hamden. With your support, I have fought for property tax reform, open space preservation, veterans rights and the environment. As a committee chairman, I’ve fought for more affordable housing for seniors and the disabled, a fair system for municipal workers and teachers, and sensible reform of our probate court system. Now I am running for my fourth term in the legislature, and I believe my most important work is ahead of me. So much needs to be done to correct our system of taxation statewide to make our state economically competitive while protecting our communities and our schools. We have to overcome tremendous obstacles in our transportation system to allow our state to grow responsibly while protecting our environment and quality of life. We must find ways of providing healthcare without crippling the budgets of state government, small businesses and families. These are big issues. They require big picture solutions. I’m proud to be a part of a new leadership team in Hartford that is willing to take on these major issues with an eye toward long-term solutions, not quick political fixes. I hope you’ll give me the opportunity to continue to be a part of that positive movement by re-electing me as your state representative.
